The Greenpower Electric Car Races are back at Aintree for their 17th annual visit on Wednesday 16th September, and we are looking for help to keep an eye on the action on the track.
Are you available?
If you haven’t been to Greenpower before, your duty is not strenuous, but don’t step out in front of the cars; some can average over 30mph around the circuit, and they don’t slow down for the corners!
The day is particularly suitable for our less active (or more senior) helpers, as you can sit in the comfort of your car (or armchair if you bring one!) and watch the cars go by. All you’ll be asked to do is inform our course controller by radio (provided by Greenpower) if a car stops, and show a yellow flag to warn following cars.
The Greenpower races are the only car races to have taken place since the last motor race on the Club Circuit back in 1982, so come along and enjoy the spectacle – albeit on a reduced scale compared with the major events of the past! 40 cars are expected to be taking part, so it’s going to be quite busy.

09.20 – 10.35 – Practice
10.50 – F24 cars to the starting grid
11.05 – 12.35 – F24 Race 1 (Ages 11 – 16)
12.35 – 13.20 – Lunch break
13.30 – F24+ cars to the starting grid (Ages 16 – 25)
13.45 – 14.45 – F24+ Race 1
15.05 – F24 cars to the starting grid
15.20 – 16.50 – F24 Race 2 (Ages 11 – 16)
16.55 – Pack up the venue
18.00 – Golf Course opens

What is Greenpower? The Greenpower Trust is a charitable organisation that promotes engineering as a rewarding career, while also focusing on sustainability, teamwork and the community.
How? Students design, build and then race simple electrically powered cars. Or the school can buy a kit car to develop itself. Several of the cars feature leading-edge technology, and some past pupils have gone on to careers in F1 motorsport. The project is part of the National Curriculum and even attracts teams from Europe & the USA.
You’ll need to be on-site for the briefing at 08.30 am, and the last race will finish at 4.50 pm. There will be breakfast from 7.30 am for early arrivals. Hot and cold drinks, as well as a sandwich lunch, will be provided to volunteers. However, since the lunch break is only 40 minutes, we recommend bringing your own food & drink, as the 40 minutes includes travel time to & from your post. The timetable is very tight, and the race start won’t be delayed!
We already have a few volunteers looking forward to the event, but we could do with several more. Motorsport marshalling experience is not necessary, and there is no need for orange fireproofs! Please let us know if you can help or know someone who may be interested in coming along to assist with this charity event. The more people we get, the more interesting it will be for all of us!
If you know of anyone who would like to come along to help marshal this or our other events, please spread the word. But we do need to know who’s coming so that we can be sure we have enough marshals.
Whilst spectators are welcome, we’d rather you helped, even for just half a day.
Access is from Melling Road, Liverpool L10 8LF – just follow the signs for Aintree Golf Centre. But please tell us you are coming along!
