Introduction
We believe that The Liverpool Motor Club is the
oldest active Motor Club in the UK, being a direct descendant of the Liverpool
Self-Propelled Traffic Association which organised a trial for self-propelled
vehicles (what we would now call a Hill Climb) on Liverpool's Everton Brow in
1896.
The Club has a long history of organising motor
sport events, with an current emphasis of organising Sprints. Over the years
the Club been successfully involved in various other areas of motor sport,
including Autocross, Autotests, Production Car Trials, Rallies, and
Navigational Runs. It has been particularly successful in encouraging new
members to start competing and then providing the stimulus for them to further
develop their skills.
In 1998, it absorbed the events previously run by
Aintree Circuit Club, including the highly respected British Sprint
Championship rounds which have been held at Aintree Motor Racing Circuit since
the 1980's.
Our current programme of events include three
sprints held annually together with a track day or two, all on the famous
Aintree Circuit.
In 1999 and again in 2004 Liverpool Motor Club was honoured to
receive the Hillclimb & Sprint Associations 'Les Edmunds Memorial Trophy'
awarded each year for the best run British Championship Sprint.
Liverpool Motor Club is a member of the
Association of North Western Car
Clubs (ANWCC), the Association of
Northern Car Clubs (ANCC),
The Welsh
Association of Motor Clubs (WAMC), and is affiliated to the Motor Sports Association (the
MSA) which is the ruling body of UK motorsport.
Its members regularly receive invitations to
compete in or marshal on a wide range of events run by other motor clubs. Our
main object is to encourage interest in motoring in all its forms, and although
emphasis is on 4 wheeled motorsport, membership is open to adults of any age or
sex. Neither age, nor type of car owned, precludes entry from many events, and
it is certainly not necessary to own a vehicle to be a member. Nearly
three-quarters of the club members are competitors and although the maximum
benefit of membership is gained by active members, armchair members and
spectators are just as welcome.
As part of its communication process, the Club
also publishes 'The Bulletin', its own newsletter containing news and
information for members. There is a continuing need for willing helpers, both
male and female at our events and there is a vital and interesting role to be
played by anyone keen to act as a marshal or other representative of the Club.
